Remembering Harvey Eisner

Share

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Harvey Eisner, editor-in-chief Emeritus of Firehouse Magazine, passed away from a heart attack. He was a friend to all firefighters and cared deeply about the issues that affected all of us — from the probie to seasoned department chief. Harvey was highly respected not only for his diligent and insightful reporting and photography, but because he understood the inner-workings of large and small fire departments. Harvey was a former Tenafly NJ Fire Chief and Honorary FDNY Assistant Chief.

Harvey was a steadfast supporter of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and championed our mission to honor the fallen, offer support to their survivors and work to reduce line-of-duty deaths and injuries. In recognition of the 10th Anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Harvey published the book, WTC In Their Own Words. Through gripping photos and powerful interviews, he captured the essence of what the firefighters of New York experienced on that fateful day and beyond. He donated some of the proceeds from the sales to several organizations, including the NFFF. For this, and for all his great works of support, we are extremely grateful.

Harvey Eisner will be deeply missed by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the entire U.S. Fire Service. Our condolences to his family and many friends.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation sincerely thanks the family of Harvey Eisner, Firehouse Emeritus Editor-in-Chief and former Chief of Tenafly (NJ) Fire Department for designating NFFF to receive donations in Harvey’s honor. Harvey was a very loyal supporter of the Foundation and its efforts to honor the fallen, support their survivors and prevent firefighter line-of-duty-deaths and injuries.

Here are two ways you can honor Harvey with your donation:
1) Remember Harvey with an engraved brick in a special section in the National Walk of Honor in Emmitsburg. You can purchase a brick for $100 with a special message about him.

2) Make a donation, in memory of Harvey, to the NFFF. Go to memorialweek.wpengine.com/donate/ to make your donation online, or mail a check to PO Drawer 498, Emmitsburg, MD 21727. Please note that your gift is in tribute to Harvey Eisner.

Your gift will be both a testament to Harvey’s legacy in the fire service and his commitment to supporting the mission of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Thank you.
