Show others that you will never forget the 343 members of FDNY who bravely gave their lives on September 11, 2001. Join firefighters and supporters from across the country on Friday, April 22nd, for the 5th Annual FDIC 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.

Each climber pays tribute to an FDNY firefighter by climbing the 2,200 steps in Lucas Oil Stadium for a total of 110 stories, representing the number of floors in the Twin Towers. Registration is $35 and is open to all FDIC attendees, as well as the Indianapolis community. Register online at events.firehero.org/FDIC or onsite the day of the climb. Everyone will receive an honorary badge of one of the fallen heroes of September 11th. Onsite registration opens at 12:00 p.m. at the Pierce Booth in Lucas Oil Stadium and the climb starts at 1:30 p.m.

“We’re very pleased to again partner with FDIC for this 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb,” said Chief Ronald J. Siarnicki, Executive Director of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF). “As we approach the 15th Anniversary, this climb is a perfect opportunity to demonstrate respect and admiration for our courageous brothers who gave their lives while trying to save others. It’s also a chance for us to show their loved ones we mean it when we say ‘Never Forget’.”

In addition, the traditional bell ringing and photo opportunity at the end of the climb will also take place in the Pierce booth. Photos of the Stair Climb finishers will be uploaded to the Pierce Facebook page, and each “like” or “share” will result in a $1 donation to the NFFF up to $10,000.

“The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is an opportunity for firefighters and anyone in the community to demonstrate respect and admiration for these courageous men who gave their lives and for their loved ones. We want to be sure that each of those firefighters are represented by someone climbing the stairwell in Lucas Oil Stadium,” said Robert Halton, Education Director of FDIC International. “In addition to FDIC and Pierce Manufacturing we’d like to thank QALO, Pelican, and Elkhart Brass for their sponsorship of the climb.”

The proceeds will benefit the FDNY Counseling Service Unit (CSU), which offers peer counseling and resources to the survivors of fallen firefighters. Through their groundbreaking partnership with the NFFF, the CSU has also provided assistance to the families and co-workers of the firefighters who died in areas outside of NYC. In honor of those brave men, a moment of silence will be observed. The Stair Climb will also help the NFFF provide programs that support fire service survivors.
