Louis J. Matthews‚ 29‚ a seven-year career firefighter with the District of Columbia Fire & EMS Department‚ died on May 31‚ 1999‚ from burns sustained during a townhouse fire the previous day. Firefighter Anthony Sean ‘Sauce’ Phillips‚ Sr. died in the same incident. It was the department’s first multiple line-of-duty death in over 90 years.
