William H. Goodrich‚ Jr.June 17‚ 1946 – August 17‚ 2002

Bill joined the Volunteer Fire Department when he was 14 years old. He was one of the three original Junior Firemen. He used to ride his bike to the fire hall when the alarm went off – about two miles. He worked his way up through the ranks and became Chief for 12 years. Then he was Assistant Chief for 13 years. He attended every class and training session at Allegheny County Fire Academy.

Bill built and maintained fire trucks for many of the local fire departments. He owned and operated a Towing Recovery and Truck Repair shop for 25 years. He was a member of the Allegheny County Chief’s Association and the Allegheny County Firemen’s Association. He has received hundreds of commendations from many Legislators‚ Senators and Governors for his unselfish community service. He was also recognized by his local community at the 2001 Heart of Hampton Awards Ceremony. Bill had responded to over 4‚000 emergency calls.

His last call resulted in him losing his life by saving the lives of two other people from a burning house. This happened on the same street where Bill was born and raised and lived at the time of his untimely death.

He is sadly missed by his wife‚ J. Penny Goodrich‚ four step-children and eight grand-children.
