Local Firefighters Host Golf Tournament to Benefit National Fallen Firefighters Foundation
Whether you're a scratch golfer or just want to enjoy a day on the links, join members of Naples area fire departments on Saturday November 10th at Lely Resort, Mustang Club in Naples for the 4TH Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Golf Tournament of South Florida. This best-ball tournament is one in a series of nation-wide golftournaments organized by local volunteers to raise funds for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF).The tournament is open to all, and the public is encouraged to attend.A welcome party for golfers and sponsors will be held at The Pub at Mercado at 6:30 PM on Friday November 9th.The $100 per golfer tournament entry fee includes a round of golf, cart, prizes, catered banquet and awards ceremony.A fire apparatus display will be on hand. Registration begins at 11: 00 am and shotgun start is at 12:30 pm. There will be numerous contests and prizes, including longest drive, closest-to-the pin and putting contests. A boat (valued at $50,000) donated by Walkers Marine and a television set will be offered for a hole-in-one. Raffle prizes, a 50/50 giveaway and a silent auction will also take place during the awards ceremony. Prior to the start of the tournament, a brief ceremony will take place. It will include a Blessing of the Helmets by Father Gerard Critch, along with bagpipe performance by the Harp & Thistle and the Guns & Hoses Pipe Bands of SW Florida. This will be followed a presentation of the colors in honor of Veteran's Day, and fire service survivor Roger Nadeau will speak to the group about the work of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Mr. Nadeau's brother Gerald, a District Chief in Fall River Massachusetts, died in the line of duty in 2002. In 2011, the NFFF Memorial Golf Tournaments collectively raised close to $300,000 for the Foundation. The proceeds benefit the Foundation's mission to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty, provide resources for surviving family members, including scholarships, workshops and conferences, and educate firefighters on preventing future fire service injuries and fatalities.
