Rick Mason

Rick MasonRick Mason retired from the New Hampshire Fire Service in February 2011 and has been the Training and Education Coordinator for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation ever since. His responsibilities include overseeing and maintaining the currency, relevancy, and value of the training and educational programs of the Foundation. In 1996 he became the third to head fire training in the state of New Hampshire becoming the governor appointed Director of the Division of Fire Standards and Training within the Department of Safety. Prior to his career at the state’s fire academy, Rick served more than twenty years in three New Hampshire City Fire Departments. In January 2002 the oversight responsibilities of the state’s Emergency Medical Services were added to the Division of Fire Standards and Training.

Rick, a 40-year fire service veteran, has an A. S. Degree in Fire Protection from the New Hampshire Community Technical College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety Management from Granite State College and an EFO graduate at the National Fire Academy. Rick was among one of the first in the nation to become designated as a Chief Fire Officer earning his designation in 2000. Rick is past chairman of the Commission on Professional Credentialing (Center for Public Safety Excellence) and was awarded the Ronny Jack Coleman Leadership Legacy Award at Fire-Rescue International in 2012 by the Commission. In addition Rick is past President of the North American Fire Training Directors which is comprised of the fifty state fire training directors and the Canadian Provincial fire training directors. Rick is active in the New Hampshire Boy Scouts where he has been bestowed the several local and national awards. Mr. Mason served as the first President of the Safety & Health Council of Northern New England and is past President of the Seacoast, NH Rotary Club where he is a Charter Member.

Rick lives in Portsmouth, New Hampshire with his wife, of almost 4-decades, Kathleen and has two grown children, Chris and Jenn and grandchildren Hailey and Hunter.
