The fourth and final Truman Fire Forum convened in August of 2022 to mark the 75th anniversary of President Harry S. Truman’s National Conference on Fire Prevention. The 2022 attendees provided recommendations on the next steps at the federal, state, and local levels; they also offered recommendations on the role of private enterprises and non-governmental organizations in community risk reduction efforts. And, perhaps most important of all, the attendees challenged each of us to take individual actions to carry President Truman’s legacy forward for the next generation.
NFFF’s Fire Hero Learning Network Celebrates Ten Years of Training
This month marks the 10th anniversary of the Fire Hero Learning Network, the virtual learning platform of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Since January 2013, 150,000 registered users have completed more than 210,000 training modules related to firefighter health, safety, and leadership.
Fire Stop Tour, January 10-12, 2023
The U.S Fire Administrator and principal leaders from the American fire service, in partnership with the Fire Department of New York (FDNY), the Philadelphia Fire Department, and the Washington, DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department, will stand together on January 10‑12 to speak with one voice to address the fire problem facing our nation.

The Life and Death of FDNY Firefighter Carmelo Puccia: A New Podcast from NFFF
FDNY Firefighter Carmelo “Carmine” Puccia was killed tragically on January 6, 1970, when he was struck by a subway train while investigating a trash fire on the tracks. His death was mourned, and then it passed into history for nearly everyone—except the family he left behind and some of his closest co-workers.

In Memoriam: Chief Bobby Halton
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation mourns the loss of Chief Bobby Halton, who passed away suddenly on December 19, 2022. Bobby was editor-in-chief of Fire Engineering magazine and Vice President of Education and Training for Clarion Fire & Rescue.
2022 Fire Hero Family Tree Lighting
Each year the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation decorates holiday trees in memory of all fallen firefighters. On on Friday, December 2, the Fire Hero Family Tree Lighting took place at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Chapel. The beautiful trees feature ornaments from the families and departments of America’s Fire Heroes from around the country which are on display throughout the holiday season.
Preparing for a Command Change at NFFF
As a third-generation firefighter with 45 years of Fire/Rescue and EMS operational experience, I’ve been a part of multiple command changes – from shift changes in a firehouse to leadership hand-offs at fire scenes. They’re a pivotal part of our work, and now it’s time for me to take part in another one as I announce that I will be retiring as the Executive Director of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
