The tolling of the bell called to order the 38th National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service on October 6, 2019, in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Thousands traveled from across the country and gathered under somber skies in a profound display of sympathy and support for the loved ones of the 119 firefighters who lost their lives in service to their communities.

The 38th National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 6, 2019, to honor 92 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2018 and 27 firefighters who died in the line of duty in previous years.
On the morning of September 17, 2019, leaders from the United States Congress and the fire service, loved ones of fallen firefighters, a Recruit Class from Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department, and others gathered in the Rayburn House Office Building (HOB) for the 6th Annual Congressional Flag Presentation Ceremony.
As dusk turns to dark, landmarks across the county will again glow in respect from September 29 – 6, 2019, to the fallen and their families. In 2018, Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters expanded to include fire department tributes. Fire service organizations nationwide are invited to light their facilities in red to honor America’s fallen bravest again in 2019.
