Firefighter Frank Hardy, of the Ashburnham Fire Department, died on April 15, 1915 when he was caught in a building collapse at structure fire at the Ashburnham House Dormitory on the Cushing Academy Campus.

Charles A. Billings, Chief of the Ashburnham Fire Department, died on July 21, 1912, as the result of having swallowed a mouthful of sulphuric acid, mistaking it for water, while fighting a brush fire in Ashburnham on July 11, 1912.
