Michael Shortt‚ 44‚ Fire Chief with the Weaverville Volunteer Fire Department‚ suffered a massive heart attack during a fire training drill and died two weeks later on March 31‚ 2000. He was in charge of training volunteers‚ acted as fire inspector‚ and taught fire prevention.
