2021 Fire Hero Family Winter Retreat

We cordially invite you to our 2021 Fire Hero Family Winter Retreat, in conjunction with the annual Fire Hero Family Tree Lighting on December 3. We hope you will join us for our Fire Hero Family Winter Retreat at Liberty Mountain Resort in Fairfield, Pennsylvania, and the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, Maryland, on December 1-4, 2021.

Join us for an event that will focus on service, giving back to others at the holidays, self-care, reflection, and fellowship. Attendees will visit the National Memorial Site on Thursday, December 2, to assist in decorating the Memorial Site and the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Chapel. On Friday, December 3, attendees will attend the annual Fire Hero Family Tree Lighting.

For Your Safety

For the safety of all involved, all attendees must be vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination for COVID-19. For children who are too young to be vaccinated, you must present a negative test on them within 72 hours, prior to December 1st. Liberty Mountain Resort is currently requiring face coverings in indoor settings, including restaurants, lodging properties, restrooms, and retail and rental locations, as well as on buses. Face coverings are also currently required in all indoor settings at the National Emergency Training Center.

Retreat with Us at the Liberty Mountain Resort

Liberty Mountain ResortAt the beautiful Liberty Mountain Resort, attendees will participate in service-based activities, open discussions with other Fire Hero Families and enjoy time connecting with each other for support.

Eligibility & Expenses

This event is open to family members of all ages whose firefighters have been honored at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation will cover the cost of one room per family and will provide meals for attendees during this event. Travel arrangements and costs will be the responsibility of the attendee.

Travel & Ground Transportation

Ground transportation from Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI) will be available on Wednesday, December 1. The airport shuttle will be departing BWI promptly at 3:30 pm (EST). The return airport shuttle will depart Liberty Mountain promptly at 9:30 am (EST) on Saturday, December 4. If you wish to utilize this service, please plan your flights accordingly. Return flights should be scheduled for departure at 1:30 pm (EST) or later. Please submit your airline confirmation/record locator number to Ashley Whitmore by November 29 at if you wish to use this service.
