Join us for Outward Bound 2018!
You won’t want to miss this exciting life-changing adventure!
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) is pleased to offer Outward Bound 2018, an exciting 7-day backpacking and rock climbing adventure to young adult children and stepchildren, ages 18-30 whose firefighter parent/step-parent has been or will be honored at the National Memorial in Emmitsburg, MD.
An adventure awaits you! Outward Bound 2018 adventure is specifically designed for youth coping with the death of a loved one. Traveling through the Appalachian Mountains and the Michaux State Forest – climbing some of the oldest mountains in the world, you will combine the personal growth methodologies of Outward Bound with a simple support model that honors the griever. As you take in breathtaking views from atop the mountain in the days, and view star-dotted skies in the night, you will take on new and exciting challenges as you develop into a crew – trusting, communicating, motivating and supporting one another as you test personal limits, practice leadership and teamwork, build confidence, meet personal and group goals and develop a compassionate community.
“I didn’t realize how much I needed this experience until I was there!”
At Outward Bound 2018, you will experience evening discussions to review personal and group challenges encountered during the expedition and in life. Topics include grieving, leadership, independent decision making, responsibility, and teamwork.
This year’s course will include a visit to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial before traveling through the Appalachian Mountains and Michaux State Forest.
The Foundation has partnered with Outward Bound USA to provide tuition for this program, making it totally free for you to attend! In addition, the NFFF will reimburse participant’s transportation cost up to $350 after completing the course.
Once fully approved for this course by Outward Bound, you will be responsible for making your travel arrangements. Travel and transportation information is fully explained in the Welcome Packet.
