On May 17-18, 2018, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation is hosting Initiative 11: Addressing a Fire Service National Emergency Response Policy conference to address converging issues on response policies.
Initiative #11 on Response Policies states: National standards for emergency response policies and procedures should be developed and championed.
The goal of the conference will be to uncover how attitudes toward response policies have evolved since the last formal look we undertook in 2007.
Conference discussions will include:
- Pre-conference will focus on the collection of metadata on current response policies from departments across the country; focusing on organizational composition and geographic location. We will identify best practices, look for gaps in existing response policies, and search for champions. This will culminate in the opening keynote address where national level data will be presented;
- Presenters will share case studies of standard response policies, including recent modifications;
- Breakout groups will discuss pre-conference work and case studies to develop a national emergency response policy standard.
- Based on breakout group recommendations, post-conference work will establish the format for discussion of national emergency response policy.
Approximately 30 individuals will be invited including: representatives from fire departments, researchers, and constituent organizations which deal with Initiative #11 issues.
