Andrew Baker

Engineer Andrew Baker was born on January 4th,1860 in Caldwell County, Missouri. He was a member of the Pueblo Fire Department in Colorado. Tragically on June 15th, 1904, Engineer Baker, age 44, was kicked by one of the horses on Steamer 1 while working around the horse stall, leading to his early death. He left behind his wife and teenage son. Per reports at the time, he was popular gentleman and was described as an efficient fireman.

This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
