Jack Hamilton Fowler Jr.

Fire Chief Jack Hamilton Fowler‚ Jr. was born into a fire fighting family on September 3‚ 1954 in LaJunta‚ Colorado. Chief Fowler passed away on June 24‚2001 in Pueblo West‚ Colorado. Jack and his wife DyAnn were married for 24 years and had two daughters. Jack Fowler joined the Pueblo West Volunteer Fire Department in 1978‚ climbing the ranks quickly‚ and becoming a third generation Fire Chief in 1983‚ a position he held for 18 years. He attended the National Fire Academy at Emmitsburg‚ Maryland early in his career. He earned numerous certificates and accreditations in the Fire Fighting field.

At the time of his death‚ Jack was honored by Representative Scott McGinnis with a proclamation made in Congressional Record by the Colorado House of Representatives ‘to honor a life spent serving others’ and ‘to give this man the recognition he so greatly deserves’ for his dedicated service to Pueblo County and the State of Colorado.

Chief Fowler was a Member of the Pueblo County Emergency Response Team. He served as the Fire Chief for the Wildland Fire Response Team. Chief Fowler was a major contributor to the formation of the Pueblo Countywide Mutual Aide Agreement. He served as the Hazardous Materials Committee Chairperson for Pueblo County for several years.

When Jack became interested in something‚ he found a way to get involved whether it was work or play. He enjoyed working at Pikes Peak International Speedway on the emergency team. He loved riding his Harley or playing with his 4-wheelers on mountain camping trips with his wife and daughters. He spent many volunteer hours with the Columbine Girl Scout Council where he served on the camp committee. He served as EMT‚ cleared timber or painted at the camp in the mountains where he loved to be.

Fire Chief Jack Fowler loved living life. His life touched so many. He was rescuer‚ hero‚ friend‚ leader‚ husband and father. Jack lived life to the fullest‚ holding on for the ride and letting go when it was time. He is greatly missed by so many‚ but his memory lives on in the hearts that he touched.
