Kenneth A. ‘Kenney’ Nickell‚ 28‚ a firefighter with Route 377 Volunteer Fire Department in Morehead‚ died on April 6‚ 1999‚ while fighting a forest fire in the Daniel Boone National Forest near Cranston. Firefighter Kevin R. Smith died in the same incident. An 8-year volunteer with fire and rescue service‚ Nickell worked for Rowan County Ambulance Service.
