Ronald V. Patterson Sr.

He had been a East Newark firefighter for 8 months only. As a Probationary firefighter he was at drills, all meetings, and involved in every wet down some way. In 2019, a park in town was dedicated in his memory. There is a plaque was posted in firehouse after he died. The plaque includes his photo, a firefighter medal, and the definition of valor which states—the quality which enables a man to encounter danger with firmness: personal bravery especially as regards to fighting.

  1. I want to personally thank Firefighter Patterson for his ultimate sacrifice in trying to save me and my family from that terrible fire that took place 41 years ago today. My family will never be able to thank you enough. I will try my best to have your name added to the Memorial my friend. God Speed.

  2. My dad made the ultimate sacrifice to try save family who was already out of the building. But he knew there were kids living there, so he entered to try save them but was separated, then roof collapsed trapping my dad as well owner of building Mr.Graham.
    I would like to thank Jack Thompson and town of East Newark, NJ for not forgetting my father after all these years. You all are in my heart and prayers. I tried to honor my dad by becoming a Volunteer firefighter in Missouri. Thanks to all my brothers and sisters past present and future firefighters.
