Firefighter Warren Ahlgrim, from the Palatine Fire Department was killed on February 23, 1973, while trying to extinguish a blaze at the Ben Franklin Variety Store in downtown Palatine, Illinois. He was one of three firefighters killed, along with Firefighter Richard Freeman and Firefighter John Wilson.
