In appreciation for Art’s extraordinary achievements, the NFFF has created the Arthur J. Glatfelter Distinguished Service Award to recognize exceptional service to the NFFF by men and women who continue to support his legacy. The annual nomination period will run from January 1 to February 1, 2018.
It was my good fortune to have worked with Chief Brunacini in the Phoenix Fire Department for nearly 3 decades – including 15 years in the position of Assistant Fire Chief. He was not only my boss – he was also my friend, mentor and coach. Many of the successes I have experienced in my career are (in one way or another) a reflection of my close relationship and experiences with Alan.
DuPont Protection Solutions today announced that it has entered into a donor relationship with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF). DuPont Protection Solutions will make a donation to the NFFF for authorized licensees who sell thermal liners made with DuPont™ Nomex® Nano and for hoods sold with Nomex® Nano Flex. The theme of the new program is: “Innovating to Protect. Donating to Honor.”
Fire Hero Family Programs News
Applications are being accepted through April 1, 2018 for the 2018-2019 Sarbanes Scholarship Program which provides assistance to spouses, life partners, children, and stepchildren of firefighters honored at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.
During the weekend attendees learned about the emotional and physical aspects of grieving and discovered techniques to help them along their journeys. But these two days provided more than classes or seminars for these fire hero families.
95 Fallen Firefighters Honored at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend
The U.S. Fire Service paid tribute to the lives of 75 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2016 and 20 firefighters who died in previous years on Sunday, October 8, 2017.
Save the Date for These Upcoming Fire Hero Family Events
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation hosts the Survivors Wellness Conference devoted to the needs of the adult family members who have lost a firefighter in the line of duty. Family members attend workshops on a variety of topics related to grief, wellness, self-care, and practical life skills.
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) is proud to again partner with Outward Bound for young adults, age 18-25 who have lost a firefighter parent. Outward Bound 2018 is an exciting 7-day program that will combine backpacking and hiking the Appalachian Trail with activities designed to encourage self-expression and healing. This course challenges you to discover inner strength.
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) will hold a Young Adults Retreat for children, for ages 18-25, who have lost a firefighter parent. The goal is for them to gain skills to deal with grief and to develop increased independence, self-expression and individual growth. You will have the opportunity to meet and share with other young people who have had similar experiences.
In 2018, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation will partner again with Comfort Zone Camp to provide a bereavement camp for children of fallen firefighters who have been honored in Emmitsburg. The Foundation will hold both the 4-6 age camp and the 7-17 age camp together in New Jersey.

New Guides for the Fire Service
A variety of departments provided their expertise to develop the guide to help others create a successful behavioral health program. It emphasizes the key roles department leadership, firefighters, peer support and clinical support play to maintain these efforts.
To help fire departments around the nation adopt the 16 initiatives, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation has created a new handbook, The Strategic Vision Guide: An Action Plan Using the 16 Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives.
