Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters

We invite you to light up red on May 1-5, 2024, to honor the fallen and their families

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation created Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters to recognize the 25th anniversary of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend. Since its creation, Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters has expanded to include fire departments and families lighting their homes in red.

As dusk turns to dark, landmarks, homes, fire service organizations, and businesses across the country will again glow in respect from May 1-5, 2024, to honor the fallen and their families.

How to organize a Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters tribute in your community

We invite fire departments, fire service organizations, and the community to participate in Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters. You can begin by setting a date for your Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters tribute, anytime between May 1-5, 2024.

If your organization does not already have red lighting installed in the bays, you can also consider a red spotlight. Departments can purchase special filters for their lights.

We want to recognize your participation on our website, please tell us about your tribute to share your event with the NFFF. The NFFF will list on our website and pinned on our Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters map.
Once you have planned your tribute, please share the event with your community through your social media, digital signboard, community newsletters, etc. Contact your local media and send a media advisory about your tribute to the nation’s fallen firefighters.

The Foundation will show our families how their loved ones were honored and would like to collect photos and stories to give future participants ideas. Email us at photos@firehero.org and/or share with #nffflightthenight2024
