In partnership with ICMA-RC’s Vantage Point Memorial Scholarship Program, we have awarded scholarships to spouse, children, and stepchildren of fallen fire heroes. Since 2002, 25 survivors of state and local firefighters killed in the line of duty have received support in achieving their educational goals.
In a second initiative, ICMA-RC has provided financial support for family sessions during the annual National Memorial Weekend. This has helped make it possible for families to meet in private, small group sessions with others who have lost firefighters in the line of duty. Facilitated by experienced grief counselors, these groups contribute immensely to the healing process of “those left behind.”
