Unlock a world of connection and understanding for adolescents with Fire Hero Teens !
In today’s fast-paced world where community support for this age group may be lacking, we provide a safe and empowering space for adolescents to connect, share, and thrive. Fire Hero Teens, our support group just for adolescents ages 13 -17, meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm (ET) via Zoom.
Since April 2020, virtual support groups offered through the NFFF have been extremely beneficial to Fire Hero families as a way to provide grief education, facilitated discussion, peer to peer support, and ongoing support for people who have experienced trauma or grief due to the loss of a loved one. Fire Hero Family parents have frequently raised the need for adolescent support groups.
Tailoring support to your needs – our groups can be individualized based on demand, ensuring that your teen connects with peers of similar age for a more personalized and relatable experience.
Fire Hero Teens is a virtual Zoom gathering for children, stepchildren, and siblings of firefighters honored or approved to be honored at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland. All eligible teens (ages 13-17) are encouraged to participate!
Facilitated by Dr. Angela Moreland
Angela Moreland, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVC) at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Dr. Moreland serves as the Director of the Center for Firefighter Behavioral Health, which provides resources and support to address behavioral health needs of firefighters. Dr. Moreland has worked with the NFFF on a range of programs with family members for over 10 years. She specializes in working with teens who have experienced trauma and focuses on the grief and other consequences associated with grief.
