William ‘Willie’ Lawrence Thompson was a 21 year old senior Agricultural Education major at Morehead State University. He was a member of the Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Department in Hillsboro‚ Kentucky of which his father is the chief.
While en route to a grass fire on January 12‚ 2001‚ he was in a tanker rollover accident and lost his life.
He was an active member of the FFA at the county‚ state and collegiate level. As an FFA member‚ he held many offices and received many awards throughout his high school career. He was an honor graduate of Fleming County High School. His love of agricultural and caring of others was his driving force to become a teacher.
When he wasn’t working on the farm or working with his father in the family construction business‚ he loved to hunt‚ especially deer and wild turkey. He was an avid collector of International Harvester and Case IH toy tractors. He is survived by his parents‚ William and Carol Thompson; a sister‚ Lucinda Thompson; and a special friend‚ Jeannine Kemper.
A Memorial Scholarship was established in Willie’s name for students interested in an agricultural related career.
