John J. Florio

John J. Florio‚ 33‚ firefighter‚ FDNY‚ Engine 214. He attended Nassau Community College for a few years before joining the FDNY. An athletic person‚ Florio pumped iron and he played halfback on the FDNY football team. A father of two‚ he also coached his son’s Little League team and his football team. A huge fan of the band Metallica‚ Florio corresponded with the group’s lead singer‚ James Hetfield. An emotional letter from the rocker was read at Florio’s funeral.

  1. Today I completed the 9/11 memorial stair climb for the second year. This year I had the honor and provilage to carry Firefighter John Florio 110 flights in Green Bay, WI. He will be remember and honored for his sacrifice. Never forget.

  7. I had the honor of carrying firefighter John Florio’s picture ID as I ran the 10k at the Kronenwetter Run for the Fallen in Wisconsin on Sept 9th, 2017. It was beautiful day with blue skies and I was tearful that John had made the ultimate sacrifice so that other people could live to see another day. May your soul be forever in peace because of what you did for your fellow human beings on this date 16 years ago.

  8. John, I took you along with me on the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Tower 5k in Cape Girardeau, Mo today. It was a good run. Thank you for the honor of thinking about you and praying for your family. Rest in peace brother!

  10. On Saturday I completed the Melbourne Firefighter stair climb in Melbourne Australia. I had the privilege of carrying John Florios picture ID up 28 flights of step with me on the day. John was the firefighter on my climber tag.

  11. I had the privilege to climb the Panama City Beach Florida 9/11 memorial climb on 9/7/19, in honor of John J Florio. This is my 30th and final year in the fire service and was proud to do this in remembrance of John. God rest your soul and praying for your family. 343 never forget.

  12. John’s parents are my neighbors and every day I walk my dog past the memorial bench for John and pray for the family and thank John for his bravery and sacrifice. We will never forget!

  13. John I cant help but think of you every year on 9/11. 20 years later the pain from that day is still in my soul. Thank you for the sacrifice you made so you and your crew could help rescue other people. You will never be forgotten. Even the street you grew up on is named in your honor.

    I had the honor of John (and his friends) being my softball coach while I was in high school. He was such a great coach. Always fair.

  17. My uncle. I went on the site and see he used to go to the gym. I never knew that, I wasn’t born until the year after in 2002 but now 20 years old, I go to the gym all the time. Wish I was able to meet him, he is family. I never met you but I still love you.
