John J. Florio‚ 33‚ firefighter‚ FDNY‚ Engine 214. He attended Nassau Community College for a few years before joining the FDNY. An athletic person‚ Florio pumped iron and he played halfback on the FDNY football team. A father of two‚ he also coached his son’s Little League team and his football team. A huge fan of the band Metallica‚ Florio corresponded with the group’s lead singer‚ James Hetfield. An emotional letter from the rocker was read at Florio’s funeral.
Today I completed the 9/11 memorial stair climb for the second year. This year I had the honor and provilage to carry Firefighter John Florio 110 flights in Green Bay, WI. He will be remember and honored for his sacrifice. Never forget.– Jacob DeClerc

I had the honor of carrying firefighter John Florio’s picture ID as I ran the 10k at the Kronenwetter Run for the Fallen in Wisconsin on Sept 9th, 2017. It was beautiful day with blue skies and I was tearful that John had made the ultimate sacrifice so that other people could live to see another day.
