Clarence “Norman” Lytle was born in Morehead, Kentucky, to Charlene and the late Nick Lytle on February 20, 1971.
Norman graduated from Rowan County Senior High School. Norman and his wife, Soni, retired to St. George Island, Florida, with their fur babies, Cici and Tiki.
In 1992, Norman began in the fire service by volunteering at his hometown fire department in Morehead. In 1999, he began as a career firefighter with the Georgetown Fire Department. After his retirement from Georgetown and relocation to St. George Island, he became a volunteer with the St. George Island Fire Department.
Norman’s innate kindness, joyful demeanor, and desire to serve to his community and fellow man, made emergency services a natural fit. His positive attitude was infectious, and fellow firefighters always looked forward to shifts and runs with him. They, along with all other friends and family, treasured spending time with Norman. He personified what a senior firefighter and decent person should be.
On his days off from the fire department, he worked alongside his father in a pest control business they owned and operated.
Norman loved music of all kinds, both listening to it and making it. He was an avid guitar player and tried his hand at many other instruments as well.
Norman was a notorious prankster and would give and receive pranks goodheartedly. His sense of humor and levity never wavered and would often lift the spirits of those around him.
For most of his life, Norman would take what opportunities he could to go fishing. He held dear his time fishing with Soni in their favorite spots in Apalachicola Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
Above everything, Norman loved spending time with family and friends and always made time to do so. He understood that these moments were precious, and they would always bring him joy.
Life without Norman has been a difficult adjustment for family, friends, and brother firefighters. Anyone who met him will undoubtedly say that they are better for having known him.
Norman Lytle was our son-in-law. He was just an amazing person, to know him was to love him. His smile was infectious, he put it on when he got up in the morning and was still wearing it when he went to bed at night. He had a bigger than life personality that never met a stranger. He loved people and was always eager to serve and help others. He served as a dedicated firefighter and truly loved his job of service to others. Norm was a kind, caring, humble man that was loved by everyone and always treated everyone with kindness and respect. Norman loved all kinds of music, fishing, seeing new places, eating different foods, most of all he loved his family. He was affectionately known as Norm, Big Norm, Stormin Norman. Always in our hearts and never to be forgotten, We Love You Norm!❤️🙏🏻
