Red Helmets Ride

24th Annual Red Helmets Ride – Saturday, October 8, 2022

The Annual Red Helmets Ride will take place on Saturday, October 8, 2022. All riders, civilian and firefighter, are invited to participate in this show of support for America’s fallen fire heroes and their families. This is a rain or shine ride all will ride at your own risk.

There are two staging areas:

Anne Arundel Staging – Water Tower on Maxwell Frye Road (Millersville, MD)

Staging at the Water Tower on Maxwell Frye Road begins at 11:30 am. We will depart at 12:30 pm with an Anne Arundel County Police escort to the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Department (79 West Frederick Street) to stage with other riders at approximately 2:15 pm.

Walkersville Staging – Walkersville Volunteer Fire Department (Walkersville, MD)

Staging will be in the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Department (79 West Frederick Street) parking lot in Walkersville, MD. (Exit 17 off US Route 15 N to merge onto MD-26 E/Liberty Road toward MD-194/Libertytown/Walkersville; If coming South on Route 15, take Monocacy Road to left Route 26E) beginning a 2:00 pm. Frederick County Sheriffs will escort ride to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, MD and will leave at 3:15 pm.

The procession will ride through downtown Emmitsburg on the way to campus.

After arriving at the on campus at 4:00 pm, all riders will follow the parking directions by security personnel and be screened by metal detectors before visiting the National Memorial. Please note: Weapons and alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the NETC Campus.

We will hold a wreath laying ceremony at the National Memorial.

If there is a resurgence of COVID, campus will be closed to the public and we will move to plans for an alternative ride. This ride will go past the Wyndham in Gettysburg, so that the families can enjoy seeing the riders. Those who wish to participate in the alternate ride will assemble at the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Department. Riders will leave at 12:00 pm, passing the hotel at approximately 1:00 pm. No police escort will be provided.
