The City of Meriden provides a 1x employees salary life insurance policy per the Meriden Firefighters Contract.

FUNERAL BENEFIT

The City of Meriden agrees to cover costs up to one year’s salary of all funeral expenses outside normal funeral costs (funeral home, casket, grave stone, etc) per the Meriden Firefighters Contract.

RETIREMENT/PENSION PLAN

“Special benefits for service connected deaths (equal to 100% of final salary less Workers’ Compensation payments) are payable out of the Pension Fund (subject to maximum pension benefit).”

Service Related Death Benefit – “Effective March 18, 2003, when an active Member dies before his twenty-fifth employment anniversary date, and whose death was the result of a service related injury, illness or infirmity, the Member’s surviving spouse shall receive until such twenty-fifth anniversary date, or until her death or remarriage, whichever comes sooner, the full pension to which the Member was entitled to if he had retired at such time. If such spouse has not remarried prior to the Member’s twenty-fifth employment anniversary date, her pension shall be reduced to one-half of such full pension and shall continue thereafter until her death or remarriage whichever comes sooner”, per the Meriden Firefighters Contract.
