On Friday, April 19, firefighters and supporters from across the country will gather for the FDIC 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lucas Oil Stadium. This annual event is a way to honor and remember the FDNY firefighters who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live on September 11, 2001—and let their families and colleagues know that we remember.

  • Register online at 2024 FDIC 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb until midnight on April 18.
  • You can register on-site starting at 9:00 am on April 19.
  • Opening ceremony: 1:00 pm Climb begins: 1:30 pm

Each climber pays tribute to an FDNY firefighter by climbing the 2,200 steps in Lucas Oil Stadium for a total of 110 stories, representing the number of floors in the Twin Towers. The fee is $35 and is open to all FDIC attendees, as well as the wider Indianapolis community. Participants will receive an honorary badge of one of the fallen heroes of September 11th.

“We’re very pleased to again partner with FDIC for this 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. This climb is an opportunity to demonstrate respect and admiration for the courageous firefighters who gave their lives while trying to save others. It’s also a chance for us to show their loved ones that we will never forget.”
The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climbs fund the programs provided by the NFFF to support the families of your local fallen firefighters and the FDNY Counseling Service Unit.
In an effort to decrease heat-related instances and contamination, we are urging participants to climb in athletic gear and not bring full turnout gear.  There will be 100 clean air packs available for participants to use during the climb. For more information, please see the NFFF Statement on PFAS in Firefighter Turnout Gear.
If you can’t attend in person and would like to support the stair climb, please register as a virtual climber or walker.  Firefighters, families, and communities can complete the 2,200 steps at any location before December 31, 2024.
