Many states have built memorials that pay tribute to firefighters who have made the supreme sacrifice in service to their communities. We have compiled a list of the states that constructed memorials.

Wildland Firefighters Monument

The Monument, officially dedicated in May 25, 2000, is located on the grounds of the National Interagency Fire Center’s (NIFC) headquarters in Boise, Idaho.

Military Fallen Firefighters Memorial

The Military Fallen Firefighters Memorial is located at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, TX.

Alabama

The Alabama Firefighter Memorial is located at the Alabama Fire College in Tuscaloosa. On June 11, 2003, The House and Senate of the Alabama Legislature passed a joint resolution designating the Alabama Firefighter Memorial as the official fire fighters memorial for the State of Alabama.

Alaska

The Alaska Firefighter Memorial is located at 5th & A Street in Anchorage. The Memorial was dedicated on September 11, 2010.

Arizona

The Arizona Fallen Firefighters Memorial was dedicated in October 2016 and is located in Wesley Bolin Plaza in Phoenix.

Arkansas

The Arkansas Fallen Firefighters Memorial was dedicated in March 2014 and is located on the State Capitol grounds.

California

The California Firefighters Memorial is located at the Capitol Park in Sacramento. It was dedicated on April 6, 2002.

Colorado

The Colorado Fallen Firefighter Memorial is located at Lakewood Center in Lakewood. It was dedicated on June 3, 2000.

Connecticut

The Connecticut Firefighters Memorial is located at the Connecticut Fire Academy in Windsor Locks. It was dedicated on August 18, 2002.

District of Columbia

This monument stands in Glenwood Cemetery, 2219 Lincoln Road, NE.

Delaware

The Delaware Firemen’s Memorial is located at the Memorial Park in Dover. Originally dedicated in 1937, it was moved to its current location and rededicated on August 14, 1983.

Florida

The Florida Fallen Firefighter Memorial is located at the Florida State Fire College in Ocala. It was dedicated on January 11, 1992.

Georgia

The Georgia Public Safety Memorial is located at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth. It was dedicated on June 10, 1997.

Hawaii

Hawaii does not have a state memorial.

Idaho

The Idaho Fallen Firefighter Memorial is located in Boise. It was dedicated on August 17, 2008.

Illinois

The Illinois Firefighter Memorial is located at the State Capitol Building in Springfield. It was dedicated on May 13, 1999.

Indiana

The Indiana Firefighter Memorial is located at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis. It was dedicated on June 6, 2001.

Iowa

The Iowa Firefighters Memorial is located in Coralville. It was dedicated on April 10, 1994.

Kansas

Kansas Fallen Firefighters Memorial is located in Wichita, KS.
Kansas Fallen Firefighters Memorial Senate Bill 71 authorized the construction of a memorial to honor Kansas’ firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty in Kansas. This memorial is in the planning stages.

Kentucky

The Kentucky Fallen Firefighter Memorial is located in Juniper Hills Park in Frankfort and is a tangible tribute to those individuals who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. It was dedicated on October 7, 1999. At present, there are more than 200 names on the wall.

The Kentucky Firefighter Association is a supporting partner of the memorial.

Louisiana

The Louisiana Fallen Firefighter Memorial is located at the State Fire Marshal’s Office grounds in Baton Rouge.. It was dedicated in 2006.

Maine

The Maine State Federation of Firefighters built and also maintains the Firefighter Memorial in Capitol Park in Augusta. The Firefighters Memorial commemorates and recognizes the contributions of those who answer the call. Its placement on the Capitol Grounds serves as a vivid reminder of the service to those who represent us in the Legislature. The Federation also proudly sponsors and leads a Firefighters’ Memorial Service every year of its annual convention in September.

Maryland

The Maryland Fallen Firefighter’s Memorial is located in Annapolis. It was dedicated on June 11, 2006.

Massachusetts

The Massachusetts State Memorial was dedicated on September 11, 2007.

Michigan

Michigan Firemen’s Memorial is located in Roscommon, MI.
Michigan Fallen Heroes Memorial is located in Pontiac, MI.

Minnesota

The Minnesota State Fallen Firefighters Memorial is located at the State Capitol and was dedicated in 2012.

Mississippi

The Mississippi Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial is located at the Mississippi Fire Academy in Jackson. It was dedicated in April 2005.

Missouri

The Missouri State Fire Fighters Memorial is located in Kingdom City. It was dedicated on May 18, 2002.

Montana

A statue was placed on the grounds of the Montana State Firefighters Memorial in Laurel. Senate Bill 267 is currently circulating in the legislature and would make Helena the new home for the memorial. New memorial designs and funding recommendations are expected no later than September 15th, 2018.

Nebraska

Nebraska Firefighters & EMS Memorial
The Nebraska Firefighters & EMS Memorial was a solemn addition to the grounds of the Nebraska Firefighters Museum & Education Center in October 2010.

Honoring Nebraska’s Bravest
The Grand Island Firefighters and Nebraska Serious Injury & Line-Of-Duty Death Response Team has plans for a state memorial and is working to raise funds. This memorial will serve as the home of an annual Nebraska Fire & Rescue Memorial Service.

Nevada

Since its completion in 1994, the Nevada Firefighters Memorial, Inc., has honored Nevada’s fallen firefighters at an annual ceremony held at the Nevada Firefighters Memorial in Carson City’s Mills Park on the last Saturday of National Fire Prevention Week in October.

New Hampshire

The New Hampshire Fallen Firefighters Memorial is located on the grounds of the New Hampshire Fire Academy, 98 Smokey Bear Blvd., (formerly 222 Sheep Davis Road) in Concord, NH.

The Memorial was dedicated on September 10, 2006 after seven months of construction. The Memorial was completed by a Call to the Brotherhood and built by New Hampshire Firefighters.

The NH Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service will occur annually on the last Sunday in September at 2:00 pm.

New Jersey

The New Jersey Fallen Firefighter Memorial is in the planning stages. It will be located at Allaire State Park in Farmingdale.

New Mexico

New Mexico does not have a state memorial. Smokey Bear’s Hometown Association is currently raising funds to construct a Wildland Fallen Firefighter Memorial. A bronze memorial will be placed in a landscaped setting honoring fallen fighters on the grounds of Smokey Bear Historical Park in Capitan, NM.

New York

The New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial is located in Empire State Plaza in Albany. It was dedicated on October 5, 1998.

North Carolina

The North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Memorial is located at Nash Square in Raleigh. The Memorial Site was dedicated on May 6, 2006 . Surrounding this central masterpiece sculpture is a brick wall with granite slabs on which is engraved the names of all North Carolina’s fallen firefighters, past, currently and will also have those fallen in future centuries …thus becoming a “living memorial”. The Annual Memorial Service and events are conducted the first full weekend in May.

North Dakota

In 2012, the North Dakota Firefighter’s Museum became home to the North Dakota Fallen Firefighter’s Memorial. The memorial remembers and recognizes all North Dakota fallen firefighter’s whom have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Ohio

Ohio has two official memorials:
The Ohio Fallen Firefighter’s Memorial is located on the grounds of the State Fire Marshal in Reynoldsburg. It was dedicated in October 1997.
The Ohio Police and Fire Memorial Park is located in downtown Columbus.

Oklahoma

Oklahoma State Fire Fighters Fallen and Living Memorial is located in Oklahoma City. It was dedicated on June 8, 2000.

Oregon

The Oregon Fallen Firefighters Memorial is located on the grounds of the Oregon Public Safety Academy. The Memorial was dedicated on September 9, 2006.

Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania does not have a state memorial.

Rhode Island

Rhode Island does not have a state memorial.

South Carolina

The South Carolina Firemen’s Memorial is located at the State Fire Academy in Columbia.

South Dakota

The South Dakota Firefighter Memorial is located on the State Capitol Grounds in Pierre.

Tennessee

The Tennessee Fallen Firefighters Memorial s located in Bell Buckle. The Memorial was dedicated on September 10, 2011.

Texas

The Texas Firemen’s Monument is located on the State Capitol Grounds in Austin. It was dedicated on July 7, 1896.

Utah

The Utah Firefighter Museum & Memorial is located in Tooele. It was dedicated on October 7, 2000.

Vermont

The Public Safety Memorial is located at the Vermont Police Academy in Pittsford. It was dedicated in 2003.

Virginia

The Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial was dedicated in December 2014. The Memorial is located in a 150ft x 40ft area in front of the Patrick Henry Building in Richmond, VA.

Washington

The Washington State Fallen Firefighters’ Memorial is located at the Fire Training Academy in North Bend. It was dedicated in 1985. There is a new effort to build a firefighter memorial on the Capitol grounds.

West Virginia

The West Virginia Fallen Firefighters’ Memorial is located at the Capitol Complex in Charleston. The Memorial was erected by the West Virginia Firemen’s Association on September 9, 1994.

Wisconsin

The Wisconsin State Firefighters’ Memorial is located in Ben Hansen Park in Wisconsin Rapids. It was dedicated on June 19, 2010.

Wyoming

The Wyoming Fallen Firefighters Memorial is located at the Wyoming Fire Academy in Riverton.
