On March 11, Senator Susan Collins (ME) introduced S. 4051, the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Coin Act. The legislation directs the U.S. Treasury Department to mint commemorative coins emblematic of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial and the service and sacrifice of firefighters throughout the history of our great nation.

After expenses, proceeds from coin sales would support the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s programs and initiatives in support of the nation’s Fire Hero Families, at no cost to the federal government. Joining Senator Collins as original cosponsors are Senators Amy Klobuchar (MN), Lisa Murkowski (AK), and Gary Peters (MI), all co-chairs of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus.

“We are extremely grateful to Senators Collins, Klobuchar, Murkowski, and Peters for introducing the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Coin Act,” said Victor Stagnaro, Chief Executive Officer of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF). “Their unwavering commitment over the years to our nation’s fire service, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, and our Fire Hero Families has been impactful. The commemorative coin will help ensure the NFFF continues to have the resources needed to honor the fallen, serve their families and colleagues, and maintain our efforts to prevent line-of-duty deaths.”

Created by Congress in 1992, the NFFF is a 501(c)3 charged with maintaining the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial, leading efforts to remember America’s fallen firefighters, and delivering programs to assist Fire Hero Families, the colleagues of fallen firefighters, and improve firefighter health and safety. Headquartered in Emmitsburg, Maryland, the home of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial, the NFFF receives funding through private donations from caring individuals, organizations, corporations, and foundations, as well as grants and cooperative agreements from the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Similar legislation, H.R. 2257, was introduced by Congressman Andrew Garbarino (NY-2) and Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen (CO-7) on March 21, 2025.

Please contact your members of Congress and ask them to cosponsor H.R. 2257/S. 4051 and show their support for our nation’s Fire Hero Families.
