Recent media reports have incorrectly stated that the 2026 National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend has been canceled. That is not true.

The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend will take place as scheduled on May 2–3, 2026.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation remains committed to the promise at the heart of our mission: to honor America’s fallen firefighters, support their families, and ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten.

Despite the ongoing Department of Homeland Security shutdown, the Candlelight Service and National Memorial Service will go forward. We are continuing to work with our federal partners to secure access to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial grounds so Fire Hero Families can gather on campus and experience the tribute honoring their loved ones. This includes tireless advocacy to DHS and Congressional leadership. In addition to our efforts, thousands of messages have been sent by members of the public to their elected representatives in the House and Senate.

If access to the campus of the United States Fire Administration is ultimately not possible, the ceremonies will be held at Mount St. Mary’s University, located just two miles from the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial. The university has graciously made its facilities available to help ensure this sacred tradition continues without interruption.

Families and attendees should know this with certainty: The ceremonies will happen. Our fallen will be honored. Their families will not stand alone.

We are grateful for the patience and support of the fire service community as we work through the operational challenges created by the DHS shutdown. Additional logistical details, including any site-specific updates, will be shared directly with families and attendees as they become available.
