The Fire Engine Five Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation, has been formed to raise money and award funds for scholarships for the children of our fallen fire heroes. The Fire Engine Five Charitable Foundation awards scholarships with additional funds through the Terry Manning and David Edwards Memorial Scholarships.
Scholarship Information
The Fire Engine Five Charitable Foundation is proud to currently partner with the David J. Edwards Memorial Scholarship and the H. Terry Manning Memorial Scholarship.
David J. Edwards was an EMS Division Chief for the Lawrence Township Fire Department. He was instrumental in developing the department’s paramedic program and responsible for EMS training. Prior to being hired in 1984, he served as a volunteer for the Castleton Fire Department where he held rank of Lieutenant and Captain. David was also a paramedic for Riverview Hospital in Noblesville. He gave his life in the line-of-duty on February 3, 1988 while fighting a residential fire.
Terry Manning was a member of the Minisink Hose Company #1, a World War II Army Veteran and business owner who believed in service to his country and community. He gave his life in the line-of-duty on August 8, 1952 while fighting a fire at his family’s business in neighboring Johnson, NY.
Opportunities
The Fire Engine Five Charitable Foundation would like to partner with other Fire Hero Family members to form scholarships that would be awarded to qualified applicants with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Sarbanes Scholarship program. This partnership allows Fire Hero Families to establish a scholarship in memory of their fallen firefighter without the expense and hassle of forming a not-for-profit, tax-deductible organization. All expenses such as accounting, IRS reporting, legal or other administrative costs would be kept to a minimum and shared with the Fire Engine Five Charitable Foundation, thereby maximizing the annual award amounts.
A Fire Hero Family’s scholarship fund could actively raise funds and serve as a committee to help select scholarship applicants provided by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Scholarships can be awarded under the name of a Fire Hero Family or as a specific memorial scholarship to honor a fallen firefighter. With the 501(c)3 status of the Fire Engine Five Charitable Foundation, any funds donated will be tax deductible.

Eligibility
- The Engine Company 5 Foundation offers financial assistance for post-secondary education and training to children and stepchildren of firefighters honored at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, MD. Children and stepchildren must be under age 30 and have been under the age of 22 at the time of the firefighter’s death.
- Applicants who are eligible for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s Sarbanes Scholarship Program are eligible for consideration of the David J. Edwards Memorial Scholarship, Engine Company 5 scholarship or H. Terry Manning Memorial Scholarship.
- Applicant must have a high school diploma, or equivalency, or be in their final year of high school at the time of application.
- Applicant must be planning to pursue undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited university, college, community college or technical school.
- Full and part-time students are eligible.
- Applicant must demonstrate academic and personal potential.
- Academic standing must be a minimum of 2.0, or “C” average.
