Anthony Bernard Rousseau was a life-long resident of Biloxi, MS and a member of the volunteer section of the Biloxi Fire Department. On March 13, 1951, he was responding to a fire at the Buena Vista Hotel. As the hook and ladder truck was about to pull out of the station, Rousseau attempted to jump onto the rear tailboard. He lost his grip, and however, and slipped beneath the rear wheel. He was taken to the hospital where he died the next day as a result of his injuries.
This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
