Firefighter Carl Lee, FDNY Ladder 7, and eleven fellow firefighters died in a collapse during a fire on East 23rd Street on October 17, 1966.

This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.

  1. This is my Grandfather, I am the daughter of the late Lance Lee Sr. My grandfather was a hero and we will forever be proud of him. If he was alive he would be so proud of the legacy he left behind. We honor him for his bravery and courage.
