Christopher P. Viviano

Christopher P. Viviano was born on August 21, 1968, in Levittown, New York. He graduated from Division High School in 1986, where he played football and lacrosse. He then went to Nassau Community College, where he received his associate degree in science. Shortly after, he attended New York Institute of Technology, where he studied physical therapy.

He was called to service by the New York City Fire Department in 1999. Being a New York City firefighter was a lifelong dream for Christopher. Christopher served with Ladder 157 in Brooklyn, New York, for 22 years. He dedicated his life to the noble mission of bravely protecting life and property in New York City. He was known as a gentle giant for his strength and compassion. Many spoke of his immense physical strength and calm under pressure. Members of Ladder 157 said they always felt safe when they were working with him. He always had a smile and a good joke to relieve tension. During his outstanding career he was cited for bravery. He was a World Trade Center first responder and part of the rescue and recovery effort for many weeks after. Though still active duty, he succumbed to World Trade Center-related illness on January 19, 2022.

Christopher was a devoted and committed family man, leaving behind his wife, Laura, and three sons, Gabriel, Darien, and Cayden. He was a hands-on father involved in all aspects of his three sons’ lives. Whether he was coaching their sports teams or helping them with science projects, he was always enthusiastic. He was an avid outdoorsman and would often spend time with his sons fishing, camping, skiing, hiking, and bike riding. He was a jack of all trades and could fix or build anything. He could often be found in the garage with his sons building a new project.

Christopher left this earth doing the job he loved, which has been a comfort to his family and friends who miss him dearly. His family and friends are proud to have known such an incredible man.
