Curtis D. McKinney

Firefighter Curtis D. McKinney, age 38, of Montgomery Fire/Rescue, died on January 12, 1951, after a roof collapse while fighting a fire at Trinity Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife Bernice Owen McKinney; two stepdaughters Mae Opal and Ruby Jewel Boutwell; three sisters: Mrs. Otis Miles, Mrs. C.H. Jernigan, Mrs. R.L. Lampley; and brother Thomas E. McKinney.

This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
