Doug was serving his 5th season of fighting wildfire with the US Forest Service. He was a member of the Prineville Hotshots‚ an Interagency crew of firefighting specialists. He did this work to help finance his college education.

He was awarded his bachelor’s degree in business administration posthumously from Southern Oregon College in the spring of 1995. He was an honor student‚ award winning saxophone player‚ and an all star baseball player. His passion was downhill skiing‚ and he excelled at the sport.

He lost his life on the South Canyon fire in 1994 with 13 other firefighters.
