Glen M. Thorpe

Firefighter Glen M. Thorpe, age 26, of the New London Fire Department died after being struck by a train on the way back from a call on May 4, 1966.

He is survived by his wife Ruth; parents Mr. and Mrs. Clemons Thorpe; his grandmother Mrs. Janie Thorpe; his daughters Susan and Lori; sons Robert, Paul, Peter, and John; brothers Earl and Larry; and sister Mrs. Gordan Conant.

He was with the department for four years and was serving as the president at the time of the accident.

This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
