Horace “Dan” Wright

Horace “Dan” Wright was born in Falfurris, Texas, and was the first of five children. He took his “job” as the oldest very seriously and made sure to text and/or call his siblings every week. He was the kindest, most soft-hearted man you would ever hope to meet. He was not afraid to cry, had no problem telling his friends and family how much he loved them, and went above and beyond as a husband, father, son-in-law, father-in-law, and grandfather. He spent many days with his mother-in-law, taking her to doctor’s appointments, out to eat at Dairy Queen (her favorite), and always followed lunch up with a Blizzard. He even took her to get her hair permed and waited patiently for her to get done. He loved and treated her as if she was his own mother.

Dan worked at Holt Caterpillar for almost 45 years, retiring in December 2021. He loved what he did and worked his way up from shop mechanic to technical communicator, where he was the liaison between Holt and Caterpillar. He was very dedicated and was their biggest cheerleader during his employment.

Dan was a volunteer firefighter for the city of Abbott, Texas. He volunteered at Northcrest Volunteer Fire Department when he was much younger and couldn’t wait to get back into volunteering when he and his wife moved back from the Dallas area after retiring. He served as a deacon at Bellmead Calvary Baptist Church for many years and loved all those he served there.

He loved his family with all his heart and was married for 48 years to the same bride he took when she was only 17 years old. He had one son, a wonderful daughter-in-law, and three precious grandchildren. He found his greatest pleasure in watching his grandchildren grow and explore new opportunities.

Dan’s main focus in life was to help make everyone happy; that is all he ever wanted. He truly was one of the good ones. He is missed every single day and could never be replaced. We know we will see him again one day and find peace in that.
