Jeffrey S. Thompson‚ 20‚ a volunteer with Howell County Rural Fire District #1 in West Plains‚ died on October 4‚ 1999‚ after coming in contact with a downed power line. Three firefighters who had responded to a grass fire were electrocuted in the incident. Thompson‚ a member of the department for only four months‚ was the only one killed. He was an employee of Air Evac and loved flying.
The National Emergency Training Center (NETC) campus will be closed during the government shutdown, including access to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.
