John C. Slade‚ 46‚ a career lieutenant with the Cynthiana Fire Department‚ died of a massive stroke on September 19‚ 2000‚ after collapsing at the scene of an automatic alarm at a nursing home on September 2. He had responded to another call earlier that day. He was the first Cynthiana firefighter to die while on active duty. He was a member of the Cynthiana Elks Lodge 438.
