John E. Murphy‚ 64‚ a 30-year volunteer Assistant Chief with the Russell Fire Department‚ died on April 8‚ 1999‚ of a heart attack while battling a massive mountain fire. He worked as a lineman for the local utility company. Murphy’s two sons are also members of the department.
