Born in Staten Island, New York, Kevin was the youngest of three sons of Douglas and Cecelia Blaine.
He attended Our Lady of Good Council and St. Peter’s High School. His love of golf started at the young age of 11, when he began working at Silver Lake Golf Course. He played on the golf team at St. Peter’s and continued playing well into retirement, enjoying the competition and camaraderie with everyone.
After high school and college, he joined his father’s plumbing company until he started his long career with the FDNY in 1977. His brother Danny had already been a fireman.
Engine 33/Ladder 9 was his first firehouse, and there were several more along the way, as well as three promotions. His final service was at the Brooklyn Navy Yard as safety battalion chief for 17 years.
A devoted husband, father, son, brother, Grandpa, and friend, Kevin was called “Mr. Charisma,” always bringing a smile and enjoying life.
He retired on January 2, 2018, on his 65th birthday. He and his wife began enjoying winters in Florida, where he played many rounds of golf and enjoyed the warm weather.
He served in rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero and passed away with 9/11-related illness on April 19, 2024. His life was well lived and well loved, and we will always remember him.
