Martin Jay Meyers

Martin “Marty” Meyers was born June 12, 1970, in Rochester Minnesota, and was raised in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. He moved to Kokomo, Indiana, in 1992, to pursue his career and passion in woodworking. In his down time, he was known for tinkering around in the garage, building something for himself, family, or for a friend. Besides his passion for woodworking, He also enjoyed smoking various meats. At his family gatherings, his ribs and brisket were award-winning and sought after. Marty always looked forward to his fall hunting trips on his family’s land in Minnesota with his dad and brother. One of his favorite memories was his mom’s blood sausage breakfast.

Marty was hired at the Kokomo Fire Department on June 11,2006. He was a dedicated part of the department for 14 years, three of those years as a captain, when he passed away on March 4, 2021. When you ask around the department or his crew, Marty was viewed as a great leader. Very loyal, he would work as hard as you, always someone you could count on at any place or time and would be your best bud. His highest achievement was helping his crew at Station 6 and being a public servant to the Kokomo community.

Marty was very devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren, and family. Martin is survived by his wife, Rebecca; daughters, Vicktorya (Darnell), Bertha, and Emmalee; son, Tyler; parents, Nick and Kay; parents-in-law, Carlos and Pamela; brother, Phil (Darcy); sister, Jennifer (Nate); sister-in-law, Patricia (William); brother-in-law, Cortland (Yuby); four grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Marty loved being in his truck listening to good music, singing his heart out, and wasn’t afraid of who was with him or who was watching. He was one to give life advice, whether it was tough love or encouragement. He was intuitive, not just on a fireground where it’s imperative, but in day-to-day life. Marty was destined to lead. The crew and the department are missing an integral part of their organization. His talks, friendship, and love are missed dearly by all.
