Mike was a Fire Sergeant in the Petersburg, VA Fire Department who gave his life on March 30, 1982 when a building exploded while he was attempting the rescue of a civilian. His story was chronicled in a book, “Last Alarm” by Jerry Laughlin (NFPA) and in an article in “Fire Command” magazine. Mike also served his community a a volunteer member of the Southside (VA) Emergency Crew. He is sorely missed by all who knew him.
