Firefighter Nathan R. Tuck‚ 39‚ a firefighter with the Keokuk Fire Department‚ died on December 22‚ 1999‚ when a flashover trapped him and two other firefighters as they tried to rescue children from a structure fire. A four-year member of the department‚ Tuck devoted much of his spare time to working with youth in the community. He coached high school and middle school students in many sports and was a certified lifesaver at the YMCA.
The National Emergency Training Center (NETC) campus will be closed during the government shutdown, including access to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

Whenever I think of heroes I think of Nate. He loved life, adored his wife and was so proud to serve our community. He left a wonderful legacy….great kids. Gone too soon….still loved and remembered.
