Stephen J. Reilly, 68, a lifetime West Brighton native, sadly left us on August 24, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer related to WTC illnesses.
He served the Fire Department of New York for 21 years and retired from Engine Company 155, “The Hot Corner.” Through his years, he loved his job and received commendations for his acts of bravery.
He was born to Joseph and Kathleen Reilly and is survived by his loving partner, Emily Flynn, and beloved son, Kevin (Catherine) Reilly. He leaves behind his brothers, Joseph (Paula), Edward (Diane), Thomas (Karen), and James (Linda), and his sister, Kathleen (Gerard), along with many adoring nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and his infant son, Neil Patrick.
Steve had numerous jobs prior to joining the fire department, including working for Tom Carvel selling franchises in New Jersey. He would jokingly say, “I was a hard man in a soft business.” He also served in the New York Army National Guard.
He graduated from Sacred Heart School, St. Peters School for Boys, and St. John’s University on Staten Island, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Upsilon. He enjoyed sports and played basketball for each school.
Steve had a wonderful life and had so many attributes. He was charming, caring, generous, and funny, with that Irish gift of gab and stories which could light up a room with laughter. Not to mention, he was very handsome! He loved so many, and many loved him. A Yankee fan for sure, he enjoyed their wins and was hopeful for the Mets as well.
He had many friends, especially his crew down at Leidy’s Shore Inn, where he enjoyed watching the games and having a cold one. He also enjoyed spending vacations near Cooperstown, New York, with family, friends, and his beloved goldies, Casey and Lucky.
Whether you remember him as Stevie, Reill’s, or Shamus, you will never forget him.
