Tre’ Evans-Dumaran

Born on April 1, 1998, in Hawaii, Tre’ Evans-Dumaran lived his 24 years on this earth with tenacity, genuine kindness, and the desire to make his community better every day.

Known as a scholar-athlete, Tre’ loved to learn in every aspect of his life. He challenged himself and received a gold medal in the state 110 hurdles. Tre’s dream was to become a pilot one day, and he worked toward that goal by finding jobs near aircraft to earn money for flight school. He used his skills fixing helicopters and applied them to fix his own car as well as others’ vehicles.

His desire to give back to his community led him to become a firefighter for the Maui Fire Department on August 1, 2019. After graduating with Recruit Class 35, he was assigned to Kaunakakai Fire Station on Molokai before transferring to his final assignment at the Kihei Fire Station on Maui.

His final alarm was in response to a call for help to remove debris and create a safer water flow for the residents of Kihei, Maui. Tre’ was swept into a storm drain, where he was pushed for approximately 800 yards. His crew and fellow first responders found him in the ocean and worked hard to resuscitate him. He spent eight days in Maui Memorial Medical Center surrounded by family, friends, and his firefighter brothers and sisters before ultimately succumbing to his injuries.

Tre’s infectious smile and positive outlook on life has and will forever leave a lasting impression in the lives of those he has touched.

Your gift of life that was taken was not in vain, and this senseless act will never be endured by another person in Hawaii, and no other Ohana will have to be devastated again.
