The Foundation covers any active FIRE-EMS provider, who serves a public governmental agency in the Cities of Roanoke and Salem, and the Counties of Roanoke, Bedford, Botetourt and Franklin, and provides support in three main areas; 1) emergency financial assistance within 48 hours of a loved one’s death; 2) higher education scholarship grants to spouses and dependent children (ages 17-24), for a maximum of eight semesters to any accredited college, technical or trade school; 3) Survivor and Memorial Conference funding so surviving family members can attend any National, State or Local Memorial & Survivors conference where their loved one is being honored, if not otherwise covered by the sponsoring agency. This support is available to any full-time, part-time or volunteer Fire-EMS provider, whose death falls under the Federal Public Safety Officers Benefit Act (PSOB), and/or the Virginia Line of Duty Act, (LODA).
